1. What is a RIPE Meeting?
A RIPE Meeting is a five-day event where Internet Service Providers, network operators and other interested parties from Europe and the surrounding regions get together.
The meeting is open to everyone. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people who communicate regularly on an electronic basis to meet face to face. For this reason, we schedule long lunches and frequent coffee breaks during the meetings. Every evening, there is a social event for meeting attendees.
2. Why should I attend a RIPE Meeting?
RIPE meetings offer several opportunities to:
- Develop an international network of peers and key players in the Internet community
- Join discussions about the policies and procedures that the RIPE NCC uses to allocate Internet number resources
- Participate in the RIPE Working Group sessions to discuss current technical and policy issues
- Take part in plenary sessions, listen to topical presentations, view demonstrations and attend relevant workshops and tutorials
- Meet with other attendees at lunches and informal evening social events
If you are uncertain what the meetings are all about, please see the past meetings minutes and agendas.
3. How and when can I register?
Complete the online registration form on this site. Meeting registration is usually open eight weeks before the meeting.
4. What is the cost of a RIPE Meeting? Do I get refunded if I change my mind?
Full Week Attendance Option
The regular meeting fee is EUR 400. However, you can get a EUR 50 discount
if you register and pay at least one full working day before the start of
the meeting.
Day Ticket Option
Day tickets cost EUR 125 per day. We offer these tickets as
an alternative to the regular week ticket, they are meant for those who are unable to attend the full week. The pre-payment discount does not apply to the day ticket.
Student Discount
A student ticket costs EUR 175 and covers your attendance for all sessions throughout the week. You must show a valid international student card upon arrival at the meeting. We do not offer any student discount for day tickets or for the RIPE Dinner.
Free Tickets for New LIRs
To bring new members together with existing ones and the RIPE community, all new LIRs will receive two free RIPE Meeting tickets. The tickets cover the cost of registration only. The RIPE Dinner is not included. You will have to take care of your own transport and accommodation.
Lunch
All ticket options include lunch and coffee breaks.
RIPE Dinner
Many attendees see this as the highpoint of the week's social events. You can buy a ticket for the RIPE Dinner at the same time that you register for the meeting. The ticket price depends on where the RIPE Meeting is taking place. It will cost a maximum of EUR 80, sometimes it costs less. You will find the relevant ticket price mentioned on the upcoming RIPE Meeting web pages. Tickets are often available at the meeting, but to avoid missing out, we advise you to book at the same time as registering.
Payment and Refunds
We advise you to pre-register for day tickets and/or the full RIPE Meeting.
You can pay in advance by credit card or bank transfer. We
will only give refunds if we receive a written (e-mail) cancellation notice no later than five working days before the meeting starts. If you ask for a refund, we will charge you an administrative fee of EUR 25.
If you cancel later than five working days before the meeting, you will not
get back any money. If you do not show up and did not send a written or e-mail cancellation notice,
we will charge you and send an invoice.
5. Where can I stay during the meeting?
Each participant must find his/her own accommodation. However, we provide you with a list of accommodation and general information on our website. Please check the current meeting page.
6. Do I need a visa?
Check if you need a visa to travel to a RIPE Meeting. Visa applications can take quite a long time, so you need to apply for one well in advance. For assistance, please contact us.
7. I'd like to present at a meeting, how do I go about this?
8. How can I take part in a RIPE Meeting if I cannot attend in person?
You can participate in RIPE Meetings by watching live webcasts or listening to live audiocasts and using instant messaging to join in the discussions. During each session, RIPE NCC staff monitor the remote feedback channels and relay any questions or comments to the presenter or session chair
All sessions that take place in the main room at RIPE Meetings are webcast live. Sessions that take place in the side room are broadcast in audio only.
